An Introduction from Laura Katragjini, Owner and Director
We appreciate your interest in Country Montessori of Sutton, Massachusetts. Our website is designed to help you explore our school community and the choices you have in education and child care.
In 1986, Country Montessori was founded, by Lucy Lukason, to offer parents a high-quality preschool and kindergarten for their children. Our year-round program is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of each student and their family.
In 2020, my husband and I purchased the school from Lucy. As a young child, there were two things I aspired to be; a mother and a teacher. I am a mother of two young girls and have been a teacher in many capacities over the years; preschool, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and special education through fourth grade.
My career opportunities have allowed me to teach in a variety of school districts, each giving me a new perspective on education and a vast array of knowledge to prepare me for this new role. My experiences in public school have also taught me that I do not fit into the mold shaped by the state of Massachusetts for public school educators. I believe children learn and grow at their own pace and in their own way and that standardized testing isn’t the “end-all be-all”. “One-size-fits-all” doesn’t apply to education. Understanding that students need strong foundational skills to build upon in order to be successful, in my belief, is the most important piece of my educational philosophy. Therefore, providing your child/children with these skills and preparing them for whatever educational journey they may embark on is my ultimate goal.
Feeling comfortable and confident in the educators who are teaching your child on a daily basis allows you peace of mind. While my credentials, and teaching experiences are strong and most fit for the director position, it is my passion, ambition, love of learning and genuine interest in the success of each child that will make Country Montessori an exceptional educational experience for your family.
At Country Montessori, we provide a nurturing learning atmosphere where children feel safe and secure in an intellectually and stimulating environment. Our curriculum is based upon Dr. Montessori’s principles which focus on the development of the whole child and current findings in preschool and kindergarten education for children.
In our classrooms, we cultivate a child’s natural curiosity to learn, focus on the individual readiness of the child and incorporate age appropriate curriculum into our teaching practices. We believe learning should be natural and fun.
Tuition at Country Montessori is affordable because we feel a high-quality education is a priority not a privilege. In the classrooms, we use the Montessori Method and materials as well as Massachusetts Common core standards to provide a quality educational program that will benefit all children.
We encourage parents to become involved with their children’s education. The school’s parent group provides children with enrichment programs and fun, social activities through the school year.
